A VIEW FROM A BROAD #11 – The legendary Gouda Gabor has done TV, stage… and probably a few of your husbands. She has been visiting Puerto Vallarta since the Malecon was just a “Mal”, but now she makes her home here and looks forward to sharing her observations of what’s on the stage and what’s on the streets of Vallarta…

pv gay pride 2020

Hola mis queridos amigos…yes, sadly Vallarta Pride 2020 was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the spirit lives on from June 8 to 14 Puerto Vallarta Virtual Pride is alive with a positive plethora of on line gay happenings from Vallarta’s favourite LGBTQ(& allies) bars, restaurants, hotels, businesses and performers.

What I love most, is the fact that Virtual Pride has been born out of a true community spirit, it is not just about the sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll of the big parties. It is the gathering of the true Vallarta gay clans to both celebrate and support our own. Some international readers may not be aware that unlike other western countries, Mexico offers no financial support to its people during the pandemic; and with a minimum daily wage of only $123 pesos r(about $5.50USD), most of our friends do not have savings to fall back on during these troubled times. If you have a few extra loonies, toonies, Benjamin’s, euros or pesos please donate and tip where you can as you enjoy the amazing line up.

Things kicked off with Brian Kent’s extravaganza PVSTRONG, which featured dozens of performances from international artists who have hit the stages of the clubs & theatres of Vallarta. From Drag Race stars like Ross Mathews & Shangela, to New York icons such as Sherry Vine & Sutton Lee Seymour, to Vallarta favourites like Hedda Lettice from Act 2, Kim Kuzma from The Palm and myself, Gouda Gabor, proudly representing Incanto. Producer Kent reports, “I couldn’t be more grateful to all the performers and donors that allowed us to donate over $25,000.00USD to over 150 nightlife staff that work in the Puerto Vallarta LGBTQI community”. Thank you Brian Kent!!!

Check out the Puerto Vallarta Virtual Pride Facebook site for all the activities starting on June 8. You will find live streaming shows from venues including La Chachalaca, Anonimo, Reinas, Kooky, Mercurio Hotel, La Noche, Apache’s and special performances from artists like Mama Tits, Miss Conception & Diva Divine. Highlights are sure to be the iconic “Beers, Burgers & Boys” from the Hotel Mecurio & Bingo with the inimitable Aunt Pearl from Incanto! Even the signature Pulpito Drag Derby will go virtual. I am thrilled to have been asked to host the event, where 5 Vallarta drag queen All-Stars will vie for the title this year. Join me for this cannot miss event at 7pm on June 10th!

Watch…enjoy…cheer…donate…help to ensure that all your favourite Vallarta business and people are still there when you arrive for your post-covid visit! Happy Virtual Vallarta Pride my darlings!!!
