Gabe Arciniega bounced onto the stage and told the audience of his new show Gabe 2 debuting here. He lent a taste of the thrills with “I Want To Take You Higher” by Sly and the Family Stone. He rocked the room and uplifted everyone into a musical frenzy. He was proud to introduce Debby Holiday and she breezed onto the stage happy to be back in ‘Paradise’ and seeing so many longtime friends and fans who follow her every move. ‘We Are Family.’She expounded on her theme for this show. She aims to enlighten the listeners of singular musical icons who had a major influence on her growth. There were the ‘shape-shifters’, the ‘bad girls’ and the ‘heroes’. Although she focuses on the women of rock, soul and R&B who were her major influences, there were formidable men who molded her and left an impact in a multitude of ways. The vision was one of little events and memories pieced together to mold her very own musical stance. She is self-assured and wants to spread the good vibes to anyone within earshot. Both sexes possessed the voices and personalities that shaped her songwriting throughout her career, but she was more proud of the women who stepped boldly into a man’s domain.

A definite person on her influencing icon list is Aretha Franklin with a delivery of a romping dance-themed “Chain of Fools”. She combined the three major areas of musical background and tossed in a healthy dose of the blues.

Debby gave everyone some Tina Turner and way much more with “Proud Mary”: ‘We don’t do anything nice and easy. We do it nice and rough!’ These women taught her to use her voice with the melody but emphasize the lyrics with words which can affect listeners’ views.  Debby showed her sexy, sneaky side with “Black Cat”, growling her way into our hearts. This woman is amazing in her mixture of rock, soul, R&B, pop and dance. It is her true essence, not an act of illusion or magic.

She cited an icon who left us way too soon, Freddie Mercury and his groundbreaking group Queen. She belted the rock tune “Don’t Stop Me Now” and the crowd shook and stirred in delight. Her vocals were exact and deliberate in emphasizing the words. Even Lady Gaga made an appearance after Debby mentioned Barbra Streisand in A Star Is Born who is a major influence on her life and singing style. She admitted she was greatly pleased by the new film version and sang Lady Gaga’s Oscar-nominated “Shallow” which she took under her wings and let it fly loose in utter forceful beauty. It is not just that she has a tremendous voice with a wide range but it is the way she uses it for her own personal basis of her wild journey into theatrical professionalism.

Pedro Islas took over a costume-change slot previewing his Twist and Shout show with a Fifties mashup of “Who Put The Bomp” and “Wooly Bully”. He gives an uplifting dance evening with Farida which brings out the smiles.

A huge influence on her career of music was Prince. She has developed a soft, emotional version of “Purple Rain” and the words floated around the venue adding life to a very well-known composition. Calming down the percussion and electric guitars allow the feelings of the written words to be heard and understood. This is a definitive performance.

She discussed her 2017 double album, “Free2B” which is half rock and half dance music. From it arose a smash hit on equality and acceptance: “Waiting For A Lifetime”. Debby bares her true soul and feelings of compassion and respect for people from every walk of life. “We all deserve to Be Heard. To Be Seen. To Count. Stand up and be joyful about it.” Video clips displayed faces of many people with which Debby has been associated throughout her career as Brian Daniel Peters [Mama Tits], Leslie Jordan and Madonna.

Debby has been involved in the music industry since she was a little girl. Her father, Jimmy Holiday, co-wrote many hit songs including the worldwide smash “Put A Little Love In Your Heart.” She flowed into the song, sang softly and dearly evoking emotions of her love and respect for him and all he taught her. Her presentation of this song has been evolving since day one and she wraps herself in the words which are a segment of her theme tonight. Love is what matters most.

Debby’s unique sound is a mixture of soul and rock. She started to write songs when 13 and has scored chart hits on the Billboard Top 10 Dance with her compositions “Dive” and “Half a Mile Away”. She has years of experience in stage, television and tours with superstars. This experience is vividly apparent to all who watch her perform and listen to what she is conveying. This show is simply a masterpiece of humanity for everyone to absorb into their being and forever treat others with this deep love and respect.
