The Boy Band Project at Act 2 Puerto Vallarta

The Boy Band Project at Act 2 PV

The Boy Band Project at Act 2 Puerto Vallarta. Tonight, a new format of a show was unveiled. The stage featured four young talented men who, through constant rehearsal, have perfected a display of their immense talents in dancing, singing and exuding each one’s unique personality. Most audience members remembered the hot streak of Boy Bands, three to five young attractive guys whose appeal conjures up latter-day Beatlemania. Their songs were not poetic compositions but cranked up the beat and drove everyone crazy to dance, gyrate or move.

Literally sliding onto the stage, these four men kicked off tonight with the party song “Everybody [Backstreet’s Back]”: “Rock your body right” from one of the very top boy bands Backstreet Boys. No one was sitting still nor wanted to. Their intertwining dancing, turns, dips and shuffles are marked by slickly designed choreography. The BBB as they were known by their fans continued with “Quit Playing Games [With My Heart]” and “All I Have To Give”. Even if many of the songs performed tonight were unknown to the listeners, the mere joy and pleasure from the foursome lit the room brightly.

This is an all-gay boy band cover group that salutes the young groups as NSYNC, Backstreet Boys and New Kids On The Block. The members of this project are The Sporty One – Chris Messina, The Boy Next Door – Travis Nesbitt, The Bad Boy – Daniel LeClaire and The Sensitive One – Bentley Black. They have been on television shows, cruises and concerts. Tonight features a group of boys who met when they performed together in the Off-Broadway musical Altar Boyz and decided to create their own band to bring back the sounds of the ’90s by singing favorite boy band hits. The Project does an illustrious job of combining the smooth sweet vocals of the boy band sound with the persistent and driving dance beat.

One aspect of the show’s design in order to cover many boy band tunes in a short period of time, they sang medleys of one group’s big hits blending with much thought and care. Once you were enchanted by a man singing a good tune, another one would step forward and sing a bit of something different. The band described what followed as “Stool Time” where all four are seated in a row and each one takes a turn at a song, performing a portion followed by the next guy spotlighting another tune. This is an excellent method of introducing each of the four, with some wandering the audience or leaning over to grab a hand.

“I’ll Be Good For You” arriving from NSYNC was sweetly gentle but next came the thumping, driving dance song “I Want You Back” from the same group sung solo by Daniel. He declared to his lost love “You’re all I ever wanted. You’re all I ever needed”. The Boys selected New Kids On The Block presenting “You Got It [The Right Stuff]” demonstrating hot synchronized dancing while taking turns at the lead with the other guys supplementing harmonious backgrounds.

The ever-present Boy Band sound is marked by lyrics of young love fulfilled or lost. “Give Me Just One Night ” and “It’s Gonna Be Me [Every Little Thing I Do]” promised true love. At this teenage age, that eternity could be quite fleeting. The classic “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” from Frankie Valli was sung superbly and struck the chords of the heart. The blending of boy band songs continued with”I Want It That Way” and the enchanting “Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely”.

One of the top crowd-pleasers was appropriately titled “Oh, What a Night”. The Four Seasons song defined this evening in a nutshell. The wildly entertaining yet exhausting display of overflowing talents must wind down to its finale and as promised, the song was NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye”. Bye to the lover which the boys sing about but also to everyone assembled. But that is until the next visit. They shook the stage with interweaving patterns singing emphatically. This was a fun, fun, fun night of joyful adoration of four guys whose talents exceed the entire community.

Choreography by Jelani Remy. Music videos featured a cameo by Thirsty Burlington.
