Puerto Vallarta just celebrated its 6th successful Gay Pride event, May 20-27 2019. Thousands attended the Vallarta Pride Parade 2019, the block party afterward on Lazaro Cardenas street, the Drag Derby on Pulpito Street, and the Bearadise Pool Party at Casa Cupula. National Geographic Magazine released a list of the 7 best cities to celebrate Gay Pride in 2019.  The gay pride celebrations in the list best champion diversity and inclusion around the world.  They vary in size and scope but share a universal mission of promoting LGBT equality and human rights. They have also become major tourism initiatives. Community Marketing Inc, a San Francisco-based research firm specializing in the community, has consistently found that many LGBT travelers plan their vacations to coincide with attending the events.  Puerto Vallarta Gay Pride was listed #2 top gay pride event.

Puerto Vallarta has received multiple accolades for being a welcoming destination for LGBT visitors and its relatively new gay pride. Puerto Vallarta city Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña was named ambassador for  2019.  In a ceremony May 17, 2019 he stated Puerto Vallarta is a world leader in the fight against homophobia and he wants the city to be considered a model on various issues, such as the promotion of LGBT tourism, respect for human rights, making the problem visible, and making the decision to take actions to eradicate it. Mayor Peña officiated the first civil union of same-sex couples in Puerto Vallarta; inaugurated the Office of Gender Equality in Lázaro Cárdenas Park, which provides LGBT tourist attention and promotes social diversity; and has participated in the Vallarta Pride Parade for the past 2 years.

Not surprisingly New York was #1. In 1970 on the one-year anniversary of the famed Stonewall Riot, New York City held the world’s first LGBT Pride event. In June 2019 WORLDPRIDE comes to New York City to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. Millions of visitors will be coming to the city to celebrate pride and diversity. Other cities making the list are Amsterdam, Sydney and Toronto.
