Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Barcelona Tapas completes a new green area project. For the last year Tapas restaurant employees and owner William Carballo have been working on beautifying the abandoned hillside next to the popular restaurant. The project, located on “Jesus Langarica” street, is turning the hill into a beautiful green area with stairs, plants and seating. The area will be used for the community as a park including planting new grass and plants.

Arturo Dávalos Peña announced a 1 km expansion of the main Malecón from Hotel Rosita to the Sheraton Hotel to reactivate the entire 5 de Diciembre neighborhood and Paraguay Street. He also promised to build a new section for the Boca de Tomatlán boardwalk and a new one in Mismaloya where the movie “La Noche de la Iguana” was filmed. In this same meeting he announced 2 other projects. An aerial cable car that would go from Hotel Rosita to Cerro de la Cruz. The mayor assured that the project is already being planned and would be funded with private investment from professional companies. The final project was the use of water taxis from Puerto Vallarta to Punta Mita. No specific completion dates were given from printed reports so far.

PVR Airport Receives COVID-19 Health Accreditation. The Airports Council International (ACI) is pleased to announce the accreditation of PVR Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport in the ACI Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) programme. PV’s airports is managed by GAP Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, S.A.B. of C.V. GAP becomes the first airport group in the world to successfully accredit all its airports in the AHA program. ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation programm supports airports assessing the new health measures and procedures introduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tomorrow, we kick off with Vallarta’s most well-known singer in the LGBT community: Amy Armstrong. La Cueva Cantina is moving to new location the bottom floor of No Way Jose restaurant Calle 5 de Febrero #260 . They are reopening September 10, 2020 6pm until 2 am. ????All the staff are very grateful for the support you have given to these difficult moments. WestJet airline will resume its weekly direct flight from the Calgary-Puerto Vallarta route starting October 2020. This is announced by Susana Rodríguez Mejía, director of the Secretary of Jalisco Tourism. WestJet is the first Canadian airline to announce the reactivation of its flights to the Puerto Vallarta international airport after suspending its operations due to the coronavirus pandemic March 22, 2020.

Mexico Airline Interjet suspends its air route service to Puerto Vallarta airport. Airline spokesman Miguel Alemán Velasco has announced the routes that will operate September 2020, adding stopovers on some routes and suspending the route to other destinations, including Puerto Vallarta. Other cities Interjet is suspending service to include Los Cabos, Cozumel and Villahermosa.

American Airlines has confirmed the restarting seasonal flight service from Charlotte to Puerto Vallarta from December 17, 2020 to April 3, 2021, with a weekly frequency on Saturdays. This flight is important for the destination because it opens the door to the east coast of the United States, said Luis Villaseñor, acting director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Promotion and Advertising Trust.

Swoop the ultra-low fare airline has released its winter schedule for 2020, which will begin operations from Toronto Pearson International Airport on October 25, 2020. The schedule will operate from October 25, 2020, to April 24, 2021, with the following frequency: Edmonton and Puerto Vallarta will operate 2 times weekly – service on Tuesday and Saturday. Swoop says safety remains its number one priority and the airline has implemented a “robust set of measures to safeguard a safe and healthy travel and work environment for its travellers and crew.” Measures include a stricter boarding process, traveller screening measures, increased sanitization, and enforcing face masks to be worn for the duration of the flight.

Starting on September 1, 2020 The secretary of tourism of the government of Jalisco, German Ralis Cumplido, announces Puerto Vallarta hotels can increase to 50% occupancy. The current occupancy allowed was 25% and in normal years September to November are usually lower occupancy. See the Spanish source here.

Restaurant Week menus from participating restaurants have been released for 2020. This year the event will take place from September 15 – October 10, 2020. Restaurants offer three-course menus, with three options available for each course. Since the prices are often discounted by up to 50%, dining out during Restaurant Week is not only more fun, but also much more affordable. Participating restaurants can choose to offer their special, Restaurant Week menu at $289, $399 or $466 pesos per person, tips and beverages not included. See the menus here.

Air Canada Vacations (not just their air line flights) announced a COVID-19 Coverage and Assistance Plan for destinations including Puerto Vallarta, administered by Allianz Global Assistance, will be offered at no additional cost to customers booking with Air Canada Vacations. The plan is designed to cover emergency medical and quarantine expenses if COVID-19 is contracted while travelling. All eligible customers who book an Air Canada Vacations package on or after August 31, 2020 for travel September 4, 2020 to April 30, 2021 to applicable destinations will be covered under the COVID-19 Coverage and Assistance Plan.  Puerto Vallarta is listed as one of the applicable destinations. Marina Vallarta has installed a Covid-19 decontaminating tent so that visitors who wish to visit the Malecón and the restaurants in the Marina are free of COVID-19. This tent provides pedestrians with antibacterial gel and assures that everyone is wearing the mask. More importantly you are  sprayed with a very fine liquid that does not wet the clothing, but does disinfect the surface of the clothing and the exposed body surfaces. The residents of Marina Vallarta stress that it is mandatory to wear masks to walk the malecon and enter the restaurants along the Marina Malecon.
