Diana Villamonte: Beyond Motown Act 2 Puerto Vallarta

Diana Vilamonte

Our Lady of Puerto Vallarta highlights an entire show on two of her idols to whom she has paid tribute in various shows as Diana Villamonte: Beyond Motown Act 2 Puerto Vallarta: Whitney Houston and Tina Turner. She approached the stage and blasted the air with an early tune “Nutbush City Limits” featuring Tina with her husband bandleader Ike. She continued with the declaration “I’m Every Woman” then slowed to a lovely ballad “Saving   All My Love For You” which she sang sweetly with emotion. Then Diana broke into a strongly vocalized “The Best”: “Better than all the rest. Better than anyone, anyone I ever met.”

One of Diana’s [and Act2PV’s] favorite new rising star Daniela Treviño took the stage as a preview of her currently running song-show extravaganza “Let’s Get Loud” with a thumping “Get It Up”. She is a young talented lady to follow her professional progress.

Puerto Vallarta’s #1 Songstress, runner-up in the Voice of Mexico televised competition, found free time to stay in her town with her family and present fantastic new shows. All of them have taken under their musical wings the dear Puerto Vallarta after many years in Panama. A vocal characterization of Diana is her basic ability to sing softly emphasizing the lyrics, then reach higher until her notes are at the top range of the song and she holds them clearly and as impressively as either of these two divas whom she is saluting. A fine example is “Private Dancer” with a soft start to the tune, building slowly until she is strutting across the floor singing her heart out.

Again, she enlivened the night furnishing her backup singers, Diego Guerrero Morales and Karla Temis. Their voices added to the drama of our forceful Diana. “I Have Nothing” from The Bodyguard is a beautiful love song that she took into her possession and sent it outflowing through the room causing chills within some listeners. She has the ability to take any song and make it hers in the most special way. Her presence stuns and thrills you at the same time. She wished to finish the first act with a rousing anthem and “Proud Mary” was that ticket. In past shows, she has dueted with her mother Yudi or her younger sister Blearth, but she said not tonight. Mother was present with her two-month-old baby so Diana chose her backup singer Karla. They were a dazzling lady duo.

Her second act started with a stream of uptempo songs, first from Whitney and then from Tina. “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is a classic tune getting attendees dancing in their seats. “So Emotional” bounced everywhere with Diana full of emotion. Then she became Tina warbling “What’s Love Got To Do With It”.

One astounding song which Diana takes into her soul and heart and allows us a glimpse of such deep love for another person is “Run To You”: “I need you here to wipe away my tears, To kiss away my fears”. She swirls the highest notes as if her voice is on the wind. She soars but is never brash or overbearing. She is a stunning star.

“I Will Always Love You” has become Diana’s signature song after many Whitney Houston shows in the past season. She takes the audience into an upper level of sheer enjoyment simply listening to her stand there and sing to everyone. She is a gift, a masterpiece which we must hold dear and treasure, feeling blessed that she has given so many thousand people the opportunity to appreciate her enormous talents.

“Do you want one more?” she asked rhetorically. This important smash from Tina could not be glossed over and Diana agave her all to “River Deep Mountain High” sending everyone down the aisles dreaming of more, hoping to hear her sing for an eternity. She is a top special talent that we have access to hearing all the way through next April 2020.
