Puerto Vallarta in top list for beach spring break. Puerto Vallarta makes the 2019 Top International Spring Break Beach Destinations list, according to Allianz Global Assistance, a travel insurance and assistance company. Using data of U.S. travelers’ 2019 Spring Break plans, Allianz gathered information by analyzing the number of travelers who went through an online booking process of airfare and packages with companies offering Allianz services to generate itineraries for roundtrip flights from U.S. airports between Feb. 22 and April 21 for trips between five and eight days in length. The so-called beach ‘spring break’ is the vacation period that students in the United States and Canada have during the spring, and a large part of them travel to Mexican beaches to have fun, and their average spending is around $30,000 pesos per person.

It was in the middle of last year, when several press reports indicated that Puerto Vallarta was positioned as the second most important beach destination in the country, just below the Riviera Maya. Puerto Vallarta increases the hotel offer in 5 thousand rooms, achieving, according to local authorities indicated, be placed during the first six months of 2018 as the most sought after destination, above Cancun and Los Cabos.

For international destinations, the list of which is led by Cancun (11.8 percent) and San Jose Del Cabo (6.9 percent) Mexico. The next most popular destinations are Nassau, Bahamas (5.9 percent), which jumped from seventh last year to the top three; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (5.6 percent); San Juan, Puerto Rico (5.0 percent), which had dropped off the list in 2018 as it recovered from 2017’s Hurricane Maria; Oranjestad, Aruba (4.8 percent); Higuey, Dominican Republic (4.7 percent); Montego Bay, Jamaica (4.2 percent); Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands (3.5 percent); and Grand CaymanCayman Islands (3.2 percent).

The Allianz findings also show the most popular flight days for Spring Break travel in 2019. The busiest domestic travel day (3.6 percent) is Feb. 28, and March 16 (4.4 percent) for international flights. Most Spring Break travelers are spending five days in domestic destinations (31 percent) and eight in international (52 percent).
