VivaAerobus Reaffirms Its Commitment To Diversity in Puerto Vallarta
VivaAerobus a national low cost airline reaffirmed its commitment to LGBTQ diversity by inaugurating its sales counter (called tienda in the Spanish article) inside the Puerto Vallarta airport with a permanent rainbow as part of its logo. On June 22, 2021 the official ceremony was attended by airline officials and Luis Villasenor, Director of the Fideicomiso of Puerto Vallarta; Susana Rodríguez, Jalisco Tourism Secretariat’s Director of Beach Tourism; Martha Meza Aréchiga, Vallarta International Airport’s Public Relations Manager; and, Lorena Amor, recently winner of the Miss Trans Global Mexico. In an official statement to GAYPV Magazine, Villasenor said “this pride sales counter is to honor the importance of the LGBTQ community and travelers to Puerto Vallarta because it is only being done in Puerto Vallarta and is year round, not just during June pride month.”

During June, VivaAerobus announced its program celebrating diversity called #VivaSerTu “Live To Be You” They stated “Diversity and inclusion allow us to better connect with those who love to travel in Mexico to the most beautiful beaches or enjoy incredible magical towns and cities. We celebrate and promote the freedom of being you!”
As part of its efforts to raise awareness about diversity during June, Viva placed the pride flag on the sharklets of two of its Airbus A320 aircraft to remind its millions of passengers of the importance of respect for difference and human rights. Viva collaborators also wear T-shirts with the message VivaSerTú and a social media campaign inviting everyone to reflect on the respect and value of diversity.
Also on June 22, 2021 the airline distributed pride cookies to some of its passengers with the message “We fill our flights with pride to celebrate our differences to live in a world without labels.”
For the second year in a row, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation recognized VivaAerobus as one of the “Best Places to Work LGBT 2021” part of the HRC Equidad MX program. Currently, they are the only budget airline in Mexico with this certification.
On June 19 their travel blog discussed LGBT tourism in relation to Mexico. They cited Ministry of Tourism studies showing 3.5 million gay travelers visited Mexico in 2017 with the top three destinations being Mexico City, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.
One of the airline’s mission statements affirms “We are a company that supports diversity and inclusion! We strengthen our culture and values, fostering collaborative work, innovation and high performance. At VivaAerobus we recognize that our talent and our passengers are diverse, we respect the living conditions of each person and promote equality of gender and opportunities, without discriminating due to disability, sexual orientation, gender, race, ethnic group, condition, or physical appearance.”
