New Cabaret Show in Puerto Vallarta: WTF! With Mama Tits

mama tits wtf

Cabarets and shows have been struggling in the last months, artists don´t have a steady income nor support from the government so they were expecting to recover during this season. This last week we had an interview with one of the best performers in town, with sold outs on every show Mama tits opened to us and talked about the industry situation and the inspiration to come back with a new show WTF! looking to motivate us and keep fighting back.

Hello Tim and hello to all the GayPV readers, Thank you for having me!

We like to get your thoughts on how the cabaret venues in Puerto Vallarta have responded to the pandemic and safety protocols?

I have generally been super impressed by the cabarets here in town following all protocols in place and I know from personal experience that Act2PV and The Palm Cabaret are taking things very seriously by going above and beyond as well as following all protocols and regulations to the letter.
It makes me proud to see that not only does management care about providing a space for entertainers like myself, to do our craft. They are also being extremely mindful of the safety of not only the staff and entertainers but above all, the clients and community.

How have you been affected personally?

Just like so many others I have been having a tough time with this pandemic, be it mentally, emotionally or financially. My husband and I have emptied our savings, we do not get assistance from the US since we are here full time, but thankfully we do have some extended family that’s has been able to help in emergency situations. Its just day by day really, but we will get thru this. I know we are all feeling the strain. Especially with these further lockdowns, it is difficult for myself and other entertainers to not be able to do what we love, what our souls were created to do, but when the reason for us stopping live in-person shows is because of protecting community health, I know I am more than happy to do anything that is asked of us to keep people safe.

As a performer, tell us how it is to perform at ACT 2’s Starlight Cabaret, Puerto Vallarta’s newest and only open air theatre?

The Starlight Cabaret is just amazing. We are so blessed that we even had that place for an option. Danny and the Act2PV team did an exceptional job creating a Grand Garden Rooftop Cabaret Theater. I feel so safe and truly glamorous up there, all be it a bit warm at times without any a/c but hey if that’s the price to pay I’ll happily pay it!.
As for the customers, I hear over and over from people that their experience makes them feel safe and somewhat normal. From the protocols in place (Gel, Temp Checks, social distancing, mask requirement) the cafe lights hanging above, the grass covering every inch off the floor, the plants, the comfy socially distant cafe style seating and the at the center is jewel that is the Starlight Cabaret stage, every detail was attended to.
Seeing a show up there is like being on the deck of a grand ship, with the breeze blowing by, the stars twinkling above and the combination of entertainment and service just takes you away from all the crazy of the past year or so, even if it is just for a little more than an hour and a half.

You have a new show starting in Jan 2021 at Act 2 Starlight Cabaret called “WTF”. Tell us what the audiences can expect to see and hear from your new show?

YES It opened on January 9th! As many people who have been to one of my shows know, you will always be taken on a journey. This time however, the journey is a bit different. Now of course the music is first and foremost. My team, Nathan Young, Diego Guerrero and myself have worked very hard to find the right music, create the right arrangements and harmonies and sew it all together through stories and comedy. Plus the song selections this year we have stepped up and tossed in some unexpected gems and I know the audience will love them.
Typically our shows discuss how we can be our own star and find our inner strength to be the best version of who we are. This year I decided to take the spectrum and widen it a bit and see how WE as humans, as a world society, can learn from what this time is teaching us, how we can grow and how we can better ourselves because of it. If you can’t learn from something why go thru it in the first place?

What inspired the new show?

The new show is called “WTF?!” This show is mainly inspired by my look back at WHAT THE ACTUAL F…? I mean seriously, soooooo much has happened in the past year since this all began and baby do we have some things to unpack. But instead of focusing on the negatives that we all have been dwelling on for way too long, I wanted to look and see what we could learn and how we could grow. We are being shown, in much detail, what is actually important in life and what is not, isn’t it time we start paying attention?

Tell us about your costumes for it and who designed them?

My new costuming is very different from anything you have seen me do in the past. They were a true collaboration of great talent and friends that believe in me and my art. The original designs were created by my ridiculously talented and good friend Sutan Amrull as a way of helping me reinvent Mama. They were brought to life by the expert skill of Jose Louis Casillas and Manolo Becker of Joselo Couture here in Puerto Vallarta. I have never felt as amazing as I do in these creations, I can’t wait for you all to see.

I am sure you have fellow cabaret performers back in the US. What is the situation with them in terms of performing? We are lucky to even have a season this year I guess?

Yes I have many many friends that are cabaret performers in the US and all over the world and many many many of them have not been able to perform in front of a live audience this entire pandemic. We here in Vallarta are truly lucky to be able to have ANY form of a season, even if we get shut down from time to time. I am just grateful to be able to perform even if its for a couple people, its worth it. Being on stage is what I was born to do, it is what ALL of us entertainers were born to do and it not only brings us joy, it feeds our souls.

What are your thoughts of live streaming cabaret shows? Will it become a part of performing?

LiveStreams are a very good option. Of course it is nowhere near the same as a live audience, emotionally or financially, but it is a great way to connect with people who are isolated. Yes its a bit weird at first but it can be amazing too! I would love for this all to be a thing of the past but I think this will be part off shows and how we do them for some time to come. Well at least until the world is vaccinated. We will ALL need to be willing to do whatever it takes for the safety of us all.

What do you think the future holds for cabaret theatre?

I KNOW theater will live on! It may change for the time being but it will live on, and it will facilitate some amazing art that will help us unpack and process what we have all gone thru. Theater has persevered over the centuries, thru pandemics, wars, rises and falls of empires, it will survive this.

As a performer tell us what it means to have a city like Puerto Vallarta to perform in? Home of 4 cabaret venues with many shows and performers.

I have always felt blessed to be allowed to be part of such a magical and diverse community. I have felt embraced and loved in this community. I love being part of something that effects so many people from all over the world.
We here in PV are part of people’s LIVES. We are players in some of their happiest memories of when they were able to vacation in paradise and leave their worries behind. We have become part of their traditions. We bring them joy and comfort. We inspire them, we give them hope or a much needed break.
Its a true honor to be part of something so magical and it is beyond fulfilling. Puerto Vallarta, her people and her community have allowed me to flourish as the artist and I am thankful and will forever be grateful.
