Bachelor in Paradise the elimination-style reality competition television series which premiered in August 2014, on ABC is actually filmed in Sayulita, the small quaint town about 1 hour north of Puerto Vallarta. It is a spin-off of the American reality television game shows The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and features previous contestants who have been featured on those shows. Is Sayulita gay friendly?
Is Sayulita a gay friendly destination? Yes, but don’t expect the bustling gay nightlife you find in Puerto Vallarta. You will be sorely disappointed! Sayulita is a small community, hardly evenly a small town but very rustic and unique on the beautiful beaches of Nayarit. There are no international hotels, no chain restaurants, no gay bars, nor any casinos. The hotels are family-owned and operated. The”fast food”consists of street tacos, homemade cookies and sweets, and shrimp grilled right on the beach. Gay couples and people of all types are welcomed warmly and happily into Sayulita’s eclectic community of writers, artists, surfers, and CEOs. Sayulita has become well known among world travelers as an exotic gay wedding location that is truly magical. In nearby Punta Mita, you will find luxury hotels galore! Punta Mita is about 20 minutes south of Sayulita and home to the Fours Seasons, St Regis and Iberostar luxury hotels. Sorry but no gay scene at all in Punta Mita either.
Where is this Bachelor Pad? According to Glamour, “BiP” is filmed at the Playa Escondida hotel in Sayulita, Mexico. It’s a luxury hotel where you can book your own beach-side stay.
The sex scandal. During initial filming of season 4, production was halted due to allegations of sexual misconduct between two contestants—DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios. After an internal investigation, it was determined that there was no misconduct and filming resumed shortly after.
Who Pays the Bills? Since 2015, the Mexican Tourism Board announced a $6 million investment to move season two of the show to the Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit area, where nearby Sayulita is. With that kind of funding season after season, the show has a lot of incentive to stay put and is likely to do so in the future.
What’s up with those necklaces? The male contestants are often shirtless on the show, but the production team still needs to mic them. The guys wear woven necklaces to hide their sound equipment, per Wetpaint.
