Gay Mexico wins medals at Gay Games 2018.  The tenth edition of the Gay Games 2018, a gay sports event that brings together more than 10,000 LGBTI athletes from 90 countries, began August 4, 2018 in Paris. The athletes are competing in 36 events, ranging from swimming and fencing, to unconventional activities like “french kiss”-themed synchronised swimming and queer urban dance. More than 80 athletes competing are from Mexico with Mexico winning these medals so far.

The first gold medal in the gay games, for Mexico, went to Nickolas Pineda of the club ‘Zorros’  in the 3000 meter dash.  He also took a bronze medal for his third place finish in the 400 meter dash.  A second gold medal was won by Juan Carlos Razo and Enrique Bizarro from Jalisco, who showed that the Mexicans have an enormous talent in beach volleyball. Also in beach volleyball, Luis de la Torre and Richard Marshal got a gold medal, while the third Mexican couple, Mauricio Lara and Fernando Luna won a bronze medal.

Christie Quinn won a gold medal in individual women’s golf and a silver in team play  for the United States at the 2018 Gay Games in Paris, France. Quinn is the only individual USA woman to win a medal in golf. Hong Kong took home a gold and a silver medal. Hong Kong’s  Sebastian Turner from LGBTQ+ sports club OutSwimmers HK brought home the silver for the 800-metre freestyle swim, while the mixed volleyball team struck gold in its win against Thailand.

The gay  games are held every four years and aim to promote sexual inclusivity in sports, with teams including straight, gay and queer athletes. This year’s event was held in the French capital and saw over 10,000 participants competing in 36 events, ranging from swimming and fencing, to unconventional activities like “french kiss”-themed synchronised swimming and queer urban dance. Hong Kong won the bid to host the next Gay Games in 2022 – beating Guadalajara in Mexico and Washington DC in the United States – making it the first city in Asia to host the games since they began in 1982.
