Brian Kent: Defining the Sound and Spirit of Puerto Vallarta

GAYPV: Brian, your career has been a powerhouse of music and creativity, from your early recognition in the international dance scene to your work as a Billboard-charting artist. You’ve recently been credited for production work on Lady Gaga’s “Disease” and Whitney Houston’s “Don’t Cry For Me.” What is your secret to taking an iconic pop vocal and translating it into a sound for the global dance floor without losing the artist’s original soul?

BK: For me, it always starts with respecting the emotion of the original vocal. A great vocal already tells you where it wants to go if you really listen to it. My job isn’t to overpower it with production, but to create energy and atmosphere around it that makes people feel something emotionally and physically. Whether it’s Gaga, Whitney, or anyone else, the soul of the performance has to remain intact. I think the dance floor responds most to authenticity; if people feel the humanity in the record, the connection naturally follows. This philosophy has guided me through more than 15 album releases, helping my music expand far beyond the nightclub scene into international compilations and featured films.

GAYPV: You’ve been a bridge between San Francisco and Puerto Vallarta for years, producing massive events like Magnitude and Fairyland Music Festival. How do you decide which “SF Energy” to bring to Mexico, and how would you describe the evolution of “Soulful House” you’re championing at One Six One versus the traditional circuit sound?

BK: What I try to bring from San Francisco isn’t just production scale, it’s the feeling of freedom, connection, and the musical journey that SF nightlife is known for. At One Six One, we’ve focused on a warmer and more soulful evolution of house music. Traditional circuit music can be exciting, but I think audiences are craving more groove, vocals, disco influence, and emotional depth. Soulful house feels sexier, more human, and more connected. Puerto Vallarta’s diverse and international crowd is the perfect environment for that evolution. GAYPV: You have a very successful partnership in the Romantic Zone with Roger Allen and Bryan Stocks. How does that creative force work together to balance such distinct hospitality concepts like One Six One, The Brick Oven, The Porch, and The Social Club?

BK: We work incredibly well as partners because we all bring individual strengths that combine to make an amazing team. While Bryan and Roger—who is a talented interior designer—handle the incredible aesthetics and vintage decor you see at a place like The Social Club, I focus on the sound, lighting, and the overall entertainment experience. We all bring out the best in each other, and that collaborative energy is what allows us to keep each venue feeling unique, elevated, and community-driven as we contribute to the evolution of Vallarta’s cultural scene.

GAYPV: The Social Club has a truly unique place in the PV bar scene. What is the takeaway you want everyone to have when they experience that “speakeasy” atmosphere?

BK: We want people to feel transported when they walk into The Social Club. The idea was to create something intimate, elegant, and timeless—a place where music, cocktails, conversation, and atmosphere all matter equally. In a fast-moving world, The Social Club is intentionally more personal and intentional. We want guests to leave feeling like they experienced something memorable rather than just another night out.

Brian Kent: Defining the Sound and Spirit of Puerto VallartaGAYPV: You’ve become known for blending entertainment with philanthropy, notably through the PV STRONG initiative. Why was that movement so critical for the nightlife relief fund, and how does that spirit carry over into 2026? * PV Strong was notably used in connection with the Fairyland Music Festival 2026 to confirm their event would move forward as planned in March 2026 after the February 22, 2026 cartel incident in Puerto Vallarta.

BK: “PV STRONG” was about taking care of the people who make this city work. Nightlife is central to our culture here, and when our industry workers were struggling, we had to step up. That initiative helped provide relief to over 150 nightlife workers in need. That same spirit of resilience carries over into everything I do now, from Brawny Bear Weekend—now in its seventh year—to the New Year’s and Pride events at Mantamar. Even as PV grows, that spirit of community support is what keeps our city vibrant. We move forward together.

GAYPV: Puerto Vallarta continues to grow at an incredible pace. What would you say to those who haven’t visited in the last few years?

BK: Puerto Vallarta has evolved tremendously while still maintaining the warmth and authenticity that make it special. The level of hospitality, dining, nightlife, and creativity here has become world-class. What excites me most is that PV still feels welcoming and human despite its growth. There’s an incredible creative energy here right now, and I think people who haven’t visited recently would be surprised by how dynamic and internationally recognized Vallarta has become.

GAYPV: To wrap up, your work often focuses on one core mission: creating experiences that make people feel connected, inspired, and fully alive. How do you stay true to that vision across so many different projects?

BK: Whether producing music, building hospitality concepts, or creating festivals, the goal remains the same. I was drawn to this city’s unique combination of creativity, openness, and natural beauty, and I saw an opportunity to help elevate Vallarta’s entertainment landscape while preserving what makes it special. For me, it is about creating experiences that feel internationally inspired while remaining uniquely connected to the spirit of Puerto Vallarta itself.
