Stars Anniversaries at The Palm

Drag Stars Anniversaries at The Palm! Three of the biggest names (and personalities) in PV’s entertainment community are celebrating major Star Anniversaries at The Palm Cabaret and Bar! GayPV sits down with these queens for a chat about their careers, their humble beginnings, and what we can expect this year!

This is a big year for you three! We are celebrating big Drag Stars Anniversaries at The Palm. Will that be reflected in your shows?
Miss Conception or MC: 25 years as Miss Conception will certainly reflect in my show this season! This is the biggest show of my career with 25 costume changes!

Sutton Lee Seymour or SLS: It’s my 10th anniversary performing in PV and it’s also the 85th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz! My new show is about my big gay obsession with the Witches of Oz!

Mama Tits or MT: I can’t believe it’s been 10 seasons already! I’m not specifically doing an anniversary show but you will feel some fun throwbacks throughout the night. Of course I have my music partner, Diego Guerrero, with me and our dancers, Carlos and Paco!

Lets take a trip to the past with while we continue celebrating these amazing Stars Anniversaries at The Palm. Tell us about your first drag performances!
MC: My first performance was so fun but I looked rough, girl. My family and friends were there for the birth of Miss Conception and they loved every minute! I performed Robyn’s “Show Me Love“ and Celine Dion’s “Declaration of Love!”

MT: Mine was a street fair in Boise, Idaho (of all places) and I performed RuPaul’s “Supermodel of the World!” I was on the street looking a mess but having a blast! I knew drag was for me!

SLS: Mine was a Drag Virgin Show in NYC! I performed a medley of my favorite Broadway divas! I thought drag would be a one time thing! …Whoops!

How did you come up with your drag personas?
MT: I used to go by “Busty McGee” and after every show drunk bachelorettes would come up to me and say “My nickname is Busty McGee!” A change needed to happen immediately, so after tossing around some options a fellow queen said “You care for us all like a mother… and your tits are bigger than Texas… so call yourself Mama Tits” …the rest is history!

MC: My drag persona is a more flamboyant version of myself. I always wanted to be on stage since I was born. Finding my way to the gay village in Toronto helped me be myself!

SLS: And… I’ve always been a bittersweet sasshole!

And now we have this magnificent celebration of biggest Drag Stars Anniversaries at The Palm! What ’s a memorable moment from your time performing?
SLS: I once brought my friend Jimmy’s unsuspecting boyfriend on stage for a bit… suddenly Jimmy started singing “Come What May” from the audience and moved to the stage. After the song, Jimmy proposed to his boyfriend… who thankfully said YES!

MC: I did a gig as Karen from Will and Grace and got to work with Leslie Jordan! It was a highlight of my career! I never knew that 4 years later I’d be working cruises and Puerto Vallarta with Leslie and we’d become friends.

MT: After my good friend, Francine Peters, had passed away, I dedicated a show to her memory… and the power kept cutting out when I was singing her favorite song. It would cut out for a few seconds then come back on and then cut out again… Finally I said “OK Francine you can stop messing with the lights!” And poof, it all stopped. But that was her: very mischievous!

What’s the funniest mishap that has ever happened to you on stage?
SLS: Speaking of power outages! Last year during my last song of my last show… the entire neighborhood experienced a black out. The audience pulled out their cell phones and turned on their lights! I performed the song a cappella with the audience singing along!

MT: One time I was on stage performing and my husband suddenly showed up behind me… I stopped singing and asked “What is happening?” He looked at me and said “Keep performing. I’m just zipping up your costume.” I then realized I had gone on stage without zipping up my costume at all! Everyone could see everything going on in the netherworld!

MC: There was an outdoor Pride festival where a dog peed on my leg while I was performing. You can’t make this crap up!

What are some significant milestones during your careers?
MC: The most rewarding thing has been landing my winter contracts in Puerto Vallarta and my summer contracts in Provincetown. This was a dream of mine for a very long time and having it changed my life!

SLS: I got to tour with Bianca Del Rio as her opening act last year! That was beyond thrilling! It is wild singing your dirty parodies to a theatre of about 2,500 people!

MT: I went viral in 2014 at Seattle Pride taking on anti-Gay protesters. That day I left my mark fighting for queer rights and visibility!

What role does activism or social commentary play in your drag?
MT: Activism and social commentary are my life’s blood! I have been rooted in it since my days as a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence! Drag is fun and irreverent, it can also change minds and save lives! For those reasons I will always have my feet firmly rooted in social commentary and activism.

MC: We as drag performers have a platform to educate people and open their minds about politics, racism and spreading love not hate.

SLS: I love this lyric: “I Am What I Am. I am my own special creation.” Be you, be authentic.

Thank you, queens! And Congratulations for this big Drag Stars Anniversaries at The Palm!
