Jorge Munoz Tells Why He Returns To PV Many Times

Jorge Munoz a frequent Puerto Vallarta visitor from New Orleans Louisiana tells us what keeps him coming back to PV year after year. Jorge visits with his partner of 25 years Gary Schiro.

What brought you to PV the first time?
My 1st trip was overall curiosity about all the buzz surrounding PV. I wanted to swim in the Pacific Ocean and wanted a place where I could be with other gays. I have a friend who lives here who kept encouraging me to visit so I have travelled to PV nine times now and I plan to return again soon.

Jorge´s fabulous suggestions for things to do beyond the gay scene in Puerto Vallarta:

1. Dee’s Coffeeshop near the Triangle Pier is a great place for early morning coffee and food. Lots of other places don’t open until later. It is really nice at 7 AM to witness the city waking up and taking in the sunrise. It is a popular rendezvous point for many Americans and Canadians.

2. Whale watching excursions. Lots of baby whales with their moms. The Bay of Banderas, on which Puerto Vallarta is located, is a nursery where the infants learn how to swim well enough to undertake the a return trip to Alaska.

3. The sunsets are amazing. Look for that flash of emerald green in the sky as the sun sinks into the Pacific Ocean. Best to see this phenomenon on top of a rooftop or at a beachfront restaurant.

4. Visit a Tequileria. Learn about the different types of tequila. Broaden your horizons regarding this liquor. It can be a very elegant drink. And it tastes yummy once you learn the differences between cheap stuff and the good stuff. You can take them with you back home. Makes great gifts and stories.

5. There’s a lot of delicious food in Puerto Vallarta. Beautiful restaurants where you can celebrate a nice occasion. Tre Piatta, Bravo are two that I absolutely love. At least have one dressy night.

6. Visit the Botanical Garden. It is worth the ride. Use Uber. Hummingbirds might land on you at any point. Lots of plants and flowers and interesting structures. It is a day adventure. It won’t take too long. You could be on the gay beach by early afternoon.

7. Take lots of pictures. Seems like everyone forgets to do it until they leave.

My to do bucket list for future trips:

  • Visit Las Marietas Island
  • Parasail from the gay beach
  • Visit the wildcat sanctuary at Vallarta Zoo to play with baby jaguars
  • Visit more local eateries- I keep wondering if that strip of restaurants on Las Olas is really good
  • Hit some of the smaller gay bars. I have yet to go to Anonimo and Garbo.

Why do I visit Puerto Vallarta over and over again?
I love the gay bar scene. It is always fun, especially since there are always so many people that I run into from New Orleans and other parts of the USA.

I wish it could all start a little sooner. I start falling asleep after 10-11PM due to the fact that I like to wake up early to watch the sunrise. Sunrise and sunsets never get old in PV.

I love the Warm weather and water, good food, safe environment, fun times, chill beach, adventure, excitement, and definitely an active and inclusive chill gay scene.  Might be the NEW Fire Island of our times.

PV is sophisticated.  That may not be the biggest selling point for some, but definitely makes a difference for a lot of us.
