LGBTQ+ Travel Trends and Mexico In 2025

Safety, Acceptance, and the Welcoming Premium

For LGBTQ+ travelers, safety and acceptance is The Top Priority, often outweighing price. Travelers actively check and evaluate local rights and may cancel trips due to perceived unfriendliness. The ideal experience requires destinations that actively affirm identities and provide emotional safety. Mexico is globally recognized as one of the most LGBTQ+-friendly countries in the world. The state of Jalisco where Puerto Vallarta is located is a national leader in LGBTQ+ rights, recognizing transgender rights and implementing local anti-discrimination laws.

Puerto Vallarta high safety and inclusion/acceptance ranking creates a “welcoming premium,” which justifies the significant economic contribution of the segment. The segment travels more frequently and has a higher spending propensity than non gay travelers.

Health Wellness and Medical Tourism

There is a surge in demand for Health, Wellness and Medical Tourism (yoga and spa retreats, stem cell and botox treatments) very often driven by the cost savings and quality of care found in Puerto Vallarta. PV caters to this niche by providing many med spas,  private clinics and non-profit organizations specializing in LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness (including access to PrEP) in an openly accepting environment. This cost-saving option for specialized care (like gender-affirming aesthetics, dental, etc.) is a huge draw, especially when combined with a welcoming recovery location. See the complete Puerto Vallarta Health Wellness and Medical Tourism Guide here.

LGBTQ+ Nightlife and Gay Events

Nightlife and partying at gay events remain an important factor in motivation for LGBTQ travel  interest, estimated at 37% of the market in 2025, with attending Pride events and gay bars vital to everyday gay travel things to do. Puerto Vallarta excels in the nightlife and events category with everything from Puerto Vallarta gay pride week, to must do specialty bars and clubs. to every gay event an LGBTQ+ traveler would want.
