Celebrating Terry and Scott: One Of Puerto Vallarta’s First Gay Weddings

Love is Timeless: Terry & Scott’s 25-Year Puerto Vallarta Legacy

History came full circle recently on the iconic Blue Chairs rooftop as Terry Jordan and Scott Crow celebrated their 25th anniversary, returning to the very spot where they were married in 2001. You read that correctly—long before gay marriage equality was legal, Terry and Scott had the first gay wedding ever performed at Blue Chairs, and one of the very first in all of Puerto Vallarta. Standing where they first said ‘I Do’ 25 years ago, their story is a living testament to the sanctuary and love that has defined the Romantic Zone for decades.

A Milestone Gay Wedding in 2001

Back in 2001, the global landscape for LGBTQ+ rights was vastly different. Yet, in the heart of what would become the world-renowned Romantic Zone, Terry (a pianist) and Scott (a realtor) joined their lives in a ceremony at Blue Chairs. At the time, it was one of the first gay weddings ever held at the iconic hotel—a bold statement of love and sanctuary in a destination that was just beginning to find its voice as a global LGBTQ+ hub.

Officiated by a Legend

But this wasn’t just a private ceremony; it was a community milestone facilitated by the very people who were building the foundation of Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ sanctuary. As you can see in this rare photo from 2001, the ceremony was officially officiated by none other than Diana DeCoste. Long before her world-famous Diana’s Boat Tours became a global institution (celebrating 26 years in 2026!), Diana was the spiritual anchor for couples looking to say ‘I Do’ when the law had yet to catch up to the heart

Joining Diana on this historic day were iconic performers Diva Divine and Angie Starr 2 of the original Dirty Bitches Show on the Blue Chairs Rooftop. These legends didn’t just witness history; they were the architects of the culture of hospitality and entertainment that defines Vallarta today.

The rooftop wasn’t just a wedding ; it was the home of the Original Dirty Bitches—Diva Divine, Angie Starr, and Jacqueline. These three queens pioneered the “Sunset Ritual” that defined Puerto Vallarta nightlife for a generation. Their mix of high-fashion elegance and brazen comedy created the sanctuary where pioneers like Terry and Scott could celebrate their love openly, long before it was the law of the land.

You can still see Diva Divine and Angie Starr performing on the rooftop of Blue Chairs at sunset 6:30 pm every night and Sunday Drag Brunch 9am-2pm with the drag show at 10:30am.

Puerto Vallarta: Then and Now

Seeing Terry and Scott return for a month-long stay in the Penthouse to celebrate 25 years together is a powerful reminder of how far we have come. Their story serves as a bridge between the early days of “underground” sanctuary and the thriving, inclusive destination Puerto Vallarta has become in 2026.

“It’s not about labels,” the community reflected this week, “it’s about pure and authentic love.” The GAYPV Team extends a massive congratulations to Terry and Scott. Thank you for being a part of our history, for supporting our local legends like Diana, Angie, and Diva, and for showing us that true love in Vallarta is timeless.
