ALEJANDRO BARRÓN Architect And CEO We Design Firm Puerto Vallarta

One of the new young professionals living in Puerto Vallarta is ALEJANDRO BARRÓN. He is a professional architect and interior designer opening WE DESIGN FIRM inside Riviera Molina De Aqua Plaza in September 2023. Discover why Alejandro loves Puerto Vallarta and his personal architectural style.

Tell us a few things about you personally?
I love the beaches and thunderstorms in Puerto Vallarta. I love Gregory, my Afghan Hound. I love my work and I love the life I have been given. Life in Mexico is not easy. I’ve been lucky and fortunate because I work had to get what I want. My friends and family tell me I’m and “old soul”, I would have to agree with them. This old soul is what drives me to the work I do for my clients. Family is very important to me.

Where are you from and what was the journey that brought you to PV?
I was born in Michoacán, México and spent the majority of my life there. I have lived all over México. 2014 in my first visit to PV like most first time visitors, I fell in love with the city. From the moment I arrived I dreamed that I would love to live here. I moved to Puerto Vallarta one year ago to fulfill my dream. I’m so happy to live here, Puerto Vallarta is HOME.

When did you discover your interest in architecture?
This may sound kind of funny, but I believe I was born to be an Architect. My passion has always been to create spaces, even my own tree house as well.

What is your education in architecture?
The Faculty of Architecture in DeLaSalle Bajio University in Leon, Guanajuato for 5 Years. In 2016, I was an exchange student in UPC Catalunya University in Barcelona.

Describe architecture (as a profession) in PV.
Being a professional architect is very rewarding. All of us in this space have a unique opportunity work with clients from all over the world. Puerto Vallarta is growing and that growth presents many design and architecture styles. At We Design Firm, my team and I do everything for our customers, from permitting, installation, art placement, furniture selection, wall coverings, paint colors, and floors. We’ll even come change a light bulb.

Is the architecture style in PV representative of Mexico as a whole?
Puerto Vallarta has so many new international residents moving here, that’s an opportunity to work with so many cultures. I get to create traditional Mexican design or very modern designs styles depending on the clients wants and desires. My passion for design is to create a space for my clients to enjoy for many years.

What are some things buyers need to keep in mind when choosing design and styles in Mexico?
To be honest, the first thing buyers need to keep in mind is patience. The culture in Mexico is different than in the US or Canada. It takes time to get some items imported from other parts of the world if it not readily available in Mexico. Mexican people work very hard and do excellent work but things are different here.

What are some things you can personally bring to your project that other architects can not?
Every architect is different. We all see offices, homes, and spaces differently. When I walk into a new space I see opportunity. I design spaces that are efficient, smart and dynamic. I love to jump in with both feet and start creating the moment I walk into a space. Once I use an idea for one client, I don’t repeat it with another. I do have my signature nuances but each space is unique and each design I create is unique.

What architectural styles and design choices do you prefer to use in PV and why?
I love high-design materials. I have access to the highest quality finishes from all over the world. I’m also fascinated with using handmade materials and artisan processes. The correct combination of both can result in a spectacular outcome for our clients.

What do you think about Puerto Vallarta as one of the top gay destinations in the world?
I love how this city, I call home, is becoming a reference of love and freedom of expression for the gay community where we all can feel safe being us.

What are your favorite things to do and enjoy here?
I definitely enjoy the beach and being in the sun. No matter how hot it is. Walking my dog Gregory, every day is a priority for me. We love spending time together.

What is your favorite restaurant?
Daiquiri Dick´s (of course) and so should it be yours!

Tell us all about your lovely dogs.
Believe it or not I have 4 dogs. Three of them are still in Michoacan and Gregory (pictured below) is here with me in Puerto Vallarta. I bring him to my office everyday and he works with me an my team. He’s very creative and adds his comments whether we ask him or not. When he likes something he lets us all know.
