On December 18, 2024, the Puerto Vallarta City Council approved reforms to the Municipal Government Regulations, including the incorporation of Article 230, which establishes the creation of the Sexual Diversity Office within the Directorate of Quality of Life and Social Development.

With this creation of the sexual diversity office Puerto Vallarta reaffirms its commitment to diversity and human rights, laying the foundation for inclusive public policies and ensuring a discrimination-free environment for all. The Red Diversidad Vallarta and Movimiento por la Igualdad en México (MOVii) led a long process of political advocacy that was instrumental in the office being created.
