Puerto Vallarta Malecón 2025 Upgrade
Puerto Vallarta Malecón 2025 Upgrade. The Malecón, one of Puerto Vallarta’s most iconic tourist attractions, is getting a long-overdue makeover in 2025. After several years of wear and tear, the city has begun an ambitious renovation project, backed by an investment of 18.5 million pesos from the Federal Maritime Land Zone (ZOFEMAT).
The work began on the south side in the Romantic Zone, starting with the closure of the panoramic pedestrian bridge at the mouth of the Cuale River, which connects Malecón II with Olas Altas Beach and leads toward the Los Muertos Pier. The Puerto Vallarta Municipal Government advises both locals and visitors to plan alternate routes during construction.
According to Edén Arturo Castillón Villaseñor, Director of Public Works, initial lighting upgrades and smaller improvements began two weeks ago. This week, major works started, including demolition of old concrete slabs, wall repairs, and structural refurbishments.
“This project includes everything from new slabs with decorative borders to restoring teak wood benches, repainting, repairing planters, and upgrading lighting,” explained Castillón Villaseñor. “Our goal is to finish before the summer vacation season, even though the contract deadline is December.”
What’s Included in the Malecón Renovation
The winning contractor, Karger SA de CV, will be handling improvements from 31 de Octubre Street to the Cuale River Bridge in Phase 1, followed by work from the Dolphin Fountain to the Rosita Hotel in Phase 2. The upgrades include:
-
Repairing damaged slabs and retaining walls
-
Installing new street furniture (benches, trash bins, and lighting)
-
Restoring the Dolphin Fountain and existing streetlights
-
Upgrading irrigation systems and electrical wiring
-
Renovating planters, borders, steps, and ramps
Some sections will remain temporarily closed during the Puerto Vallarta Malecón 2025 Upgrade to ensure public safety and allow the construction crews to work efficiently.
The Puerto Vallarta Malecón has long been a favorite for sunset strolls, public art viewing, and cultural events. Once completed, this renovation will not only restore its charm but also enhance accessibility, safety, and visitor comfort—making it an even more vibrant gathering place for locals and tourists alike.
