Southwest Airlines Adds Puerto Vallarta Flights from so now Puerto Vallarta LGBTQ+ travelers will shave another nonstop option from California as Southwest Airlines expands operations at San Diego International Airport. Beginning March 5, 2026, Southwest will launch daily, year-round service between San Diego and Puerto Vallarta, further strengthening Puerto Vallarta as one of Mexico’s most popular international destinations.

This expansion coincides with the opening of San Diego’s new Terminal 1 on September 22, 2025, where Southwest is the anchor tenant and California’s largest carrier in terms of daily departures, available seats, and customers boarded.

San Diego Expansion and Competition

Southwest Airlines adds Puerto Vallarta Flights in direct response to Alaska Airlines’ recent growth at San Diego International Airport, which has increased competition for Mexico and West Coast leisure travel markets. Alongside Puerto Vallarta, Southwest will also launch daily service to Eugene, Portland, Maui, and Seattle, plus seasonal weekly flights to ski destinations such as Bozeman and Spokane.
