Tryst Puerto Vallarta Hosts La Arriera Screening

Tryst Puerto Vallarta Hosts La Arriera Screening. Thursday September 4, 2025 over 50 members of the local LGBTQ+ community gathered for cocktails, networking, and a private dinner screening of the film La Arriera, the award-nominated film by Jalisco director Isabel Cristina Fregoso.  The film, a powerful story about a young woman challenging gender norms, received nominations for Best Cinematography at the prestigious Ariel Awards but did not secure a win.

Tryst Puerto Vallarta hosts La Arriera Screening was organized by the Directorate of Sexual Diversity of Jalisco, Councilwoman Melissa Madero, and the Puerto Vallarta Municipal Government. This collaboration highlights the Puerto Vallarta city government involvement in the LGBTQ community for the very first time in history.

The ongoing progress in LGBTQ+ Puerto Vallarta is a result of powerful collaborations between the city government and leading LGBTQ activists like Councilwoman Melissa Marlene Madero Plascencia. She is at the forefront of this effort having been honored with the “LGBTQ+ Ally of the Year” award during the 2025 Vallarta Pride festival. Her involvement has been instrumental in establishing a relationship between the Puerto Vallarta LBGTQ+ community and local government for the first time.

This work is supported by great organizations like Cabildo de la Diversidad (Diversity Council), Red Diversidad Vallarta (Vallarta Diversity Network), and Movii México, all of which are advancing the gay Puerto Vallarta community’s agenda and solidifying the city’s reputation as a progressive and welcoming destination.

Things to do in The Tryst Puerto Vallarta
