Comprehensive Health Services Under One Roof

The Vallarta Gay+ Community Center provides a range of health, prevention, and support services designed to meet the needs of Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ community, local residents, international residents, and visitors.

One of the Center’s most important programs is accessible HIV and STI testing. Rapid testing is available free of charge, allowing individuals to receive timely information about their health. More comprehensive laboratory testing is also available when additional screening is needed.

The Center also provides access to HIV prevention options, including PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis), and DoxyPEP consultations. These services provide individuals with additional tools to make informed decisions about their sexual health.

Beyond medical services, the Center recognizes that overall wellness also includes mental health, education, and social connection. Professional counseling services, educational programs, and community activities provide additional opportunities for individuals to find support, reliable information, and meaningful connections in a safe and inclusive setting.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Access and Community Support

As demand for services continues to grow, the Vallarta Gay+ Community Center is preparing for its next chapter. Following the completion of this interview, the Center publicly announced plans to expand into the adjacent space formerly occupied by Antropology Nightclub, effectively doubling its footprint from approximately 2,000 square feet to 4,000 square feet.

According to Board President Matt Karimi, the expansion will create additional space for HIV prevention services, increase testing capacity, provide more private counseling rooms, expand community programming, and create additional safe spaces where members of Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ community can find connection, acceptance, and hope.

The project will also launch a community fundraising campaign to help complete renovations and prepare the expanded facility for future programming.

A Community Without Borders

The Vallarta Gay+ Community Center reflects the international character of Puerto Vallarta itself. While created to serve the local LGBTQ+ community, its programs also assist seasonal residents, retirees, digital nomads, and visitors seeking reliable health information and compassionate support.

Since opening, the majority of individuals served have been Mexican nationals, while nearly one-third are temporary or permanent residents. Although visitor statistics have not previously been tracked separately, the Center plans to begin collecting that information to better understand and respond to the needs of everyone who seeks assistance.

Community Served Percentage
Mexican nationals 58.1%
Temporary or permanent residents 31.5%
No legal status recorded (may include some visitors) 10.4%

At its core, the Vallarta Gay+ Community Center is more than a healthcare provider. It is a place where people can ask questions, access trusted prevention resources, receive compassionate support, and connect with others—without fear of judgment or stigma.
