Historic Barcelona Pride 2018

The 2018 edition of the Pride Barcelona has ended with a historic record, bringing together more than 380,000 people and generating an economic impact on the city valued more than 65 million euros. Pride Barcelona closes the week of the biggest Pride in the Mediterranean with more than 100 events with a range of conferences and exhibitions, sports and family activities, as well as free concerts with national and international superstars.

According to data of the organization, more than 80,000 people participated in the largest demonstration to date for LGBTI rights in Barcelona. Under the slogan “Pride is welcoming: Barcelona with LGTBI refugees”, more than 30 coaches and thousands of people walked from the Parc de les Tres Xemeneies to Plaza España. On the main stage of Plaza España, the reading of the Manifesto by Carol, image of the main poster and testimony of the LGTBI refugee campaign, took place. The event was also attended by numerous political authorities and entities that are part of the Pride Barcelona organization.

One of the most acclaimed appearances by the public was the speech of the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, who said that “it is a pride not only to be the first bisexual female mayor of the city but also to be from a city that is a pioneer in the defense of LGTBI rights and freedoms. Barcelona is a proud city and a world reference city in free love “.

The organization of Pride Barcelona 2018 fulfills the expectations of this year, achieving the highest participation of recent years, with an agenda of activities and events full of news and the most important Line Up of performances so far. “We have fulfilled our objectives: to give voice and visibility to the LGTBI refugees who are forced to flee their countries of origin because of their sexual orientation and need our support, as well as to recover their pride in celebrating the Pride of Barcelona in their own citizenship “, according to Eloi Morte, Director of Pride Barcelona.

After the success of Pride Barcelona, the struggle for LGTBI rights takes over at the Pride of Madrid, where vindication and celebration will take place from June 28 to July 8. This year Barcelona and Madrid have been twinned as ‘Prides Amigos’ to demonstrate that the defense of the LGTBI community is a common goal.
