2024 Travel guide to Puerto Vallarta Costs are way up
Overall travel costs are up — way up in many instances. Numbeo just released a study in April 2024 showing Puerto Vallarta has the highest cost of living of any city in Latin America. This study includes rent, buying real estate, dining out and utilities all which has certainly increased in Puerto Vallarta in the last year.
Adding to the cost of travel in 2024 is the increasing value of the Mexican peso compared to the US dollar. The peso continues to break records, appreciating its strongest level against the dollar in almost nine years in April 2024.
A major trend over the last several years leading to higher costs for Puerto Vallarta, and Mexico overall, is the gradual shift to a more luxurious market, expanding the variety and experiences available to travelers than in previous years. Gone are the days of a “cheap Mexican vacation.”
Businesses also face higher operating costs in Mexico compared to the US, especially labor and taxes. Despiter the higher costs, the number of travelers going to Mexico remain high. Puerto Vallarta is still an excellent top gay travel destination, just do not expect the historical cheap prices to travel there as in previous years.
