OPEN FOR BUSINESS study lists gay Mexico cities. A new LGBT report lists some Mexican cities as OPEN FOR BUSINESS. Open For Business is a coalition of global companies making the case that LGBT inclusive, diverse societies ie cities are better for business and better for economic growth. This Report establishes an Open For Business City Ratings, a guide of 121 global cities that shows how “open for business” they are – LGBT inclusive, progressive and economically competitive.

Some cities, notably those in in Latin America, have over the last decade become more LGBT+ inclusive and have started to see improved economic outcomes  such as strong start up cultures. These cities include Medellin, Mexico City and Guadalajara.

Guadalajara, Mexico, one of the case studies in the report, is listed as of the most surprising high-performers in terms of LGBT+ inclusiveness and economic prosperity (and is highlighted in the Report). Here is a paragraph from the report about Guadalajara.

LGBT+ people enjoy increasing recognition and acceptance in Guadalajara, which is known as the “gay capital of Mexico”. Today, there are more than 50 establishments are accredited for “gay tourism” – more than anywhere else in the country. The legal status of LGBT+ people is improving, too: there was no federal law on marriage equality in Mexico, but in 2013 the state of Jalisco passed a law recognizing same-sex marriage. LGBT+ people considering moving to Guadalajara can be reassured that Mexico does have legal protections, provided by a 2011 amendment to the constitution.

Mexico City is rated B listed partially open for business and Monterrey is rated CC also listed as partially open for business
