Puerto Vallarta Airport Terminal 2 Update. Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) the operator of Puerto Vallarta’s Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz airport has provided an update on the construction of terminal 2 as being 40% complete as of March 23, 2025 during a site visit by Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism Michelle Fridman Hirsch. It is expected for terminal 2 to be operational by late 2026.
The airport expansion involves more than 89,000 square meters to handle increased domestic and international flight capacity. The airport’s modernization also includes the implementation of advanced technologies that will improve the user experience during check-in and boarding process.
Puerto Vallarta Airport Terminal 2 update includes LEED Gold Certification, an international recognition that endorses its sustainability and energy efficiency. This will be the first in Latin America to achieve Zero Energy certification. This will be achieved through solar, treated water release for assistance with cooling, smaller footprint, utilizing solar panels and efficient water management systems to reduce energy and water consumption significantly, protection of the green spaces, rainwater collection, and more.
Puerto Vallarta International Airport is one of the five airports in the country that handle 90 percent of international traffic . In 2024, it handled 6.7 million passengers and with this expansion hopefully to strengthen tourism from new markets beyond North America into South America and Europe. Tripadvisor listed the destination as one of the 10 most visited international destinations by American tourists in 2024.
