Puerto Vallarta To Launch An LGBTQ Zone Project area dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community. Puerto Vallarta continues to lead Mexico in inclusive tourism innovation. During the latest session of the Historic Center Citizens’ Council, it was confirmed that the long-awaited Romantic Zone Friendly District project will officially begin implementation in 2026, supported by Puerto Vallarta’s Tourism Trust (Fidetur) with an investment of 10 million pesos.
This transformative urban development project aims to consolidate the Romantic Zone as an inclusive, safe, and accessible space for the LGBTQ+ community, residents, and international visitors — reaffirming Puerto Vallarta’s position as one of the world’s top LGBTQ+ travel destinations.
A Vision for Inclusive Urban Renewal
The Friendly District initiative will revitalize the city’s most vibrant and iconic neighborhood through actions that combine design, safety, and cultural identity:

Pedestrian crossings and inclusive signage featuring Pride colors.

Improved streets, sidewalks, and street furniture designed for universal accessibility.

Creation of pedestrian-only zones, bike paths, and social spaces for community gathering.

Murals and urban art celebrating diversity across walls and intersections.

Public restrooms, information modules, and a new pet-friendly beach for locals and visitors.
Celebrating Culture, Diversity, and Equality
Beyond infrastructure, the project will integrate diversity-centered cultural and culinary activities, inclusive tourist routes, and public awareness campaigns to promote equality and respect across all sectors of the community.
The Vallarta Diversity Network expressed confidence that the Friendly District will become a model of collaboration between civil society, local organizations, businesses, and the LGBTQ+ community. Their goal is to ensure that the project reflects a shared, representative, and inclusive vision for the future of Puerto Vallarta.
A Historic Step for LGBTQ+ Tourism in Mexico
With this decision, the Historic Center Citizens’ Council has taken a historic step toward the creation of Puerto Vallarta’s first official Friendly District, strengthening inclusion, safety, and economic growth in the heart of the city’s Romantic Zone.
