Puerto Vallarta Celebrates International Transgender Day
Puerto Vallarta Celebrates International Transgender Day Monday March 31, 2025. The celebration began with a trans-inclusive march from Hotel Rosita to the Arches on the Malecón organized by the collectives Red Diversidad Vallarta, MOVii – Movement for Equality in Mexico, Vallarta Trans, Diverso Vallarta, Comunidad Ballroom PV and other local groups.
Beginning at Hotel Rosita dozens of supporters carrying banners and flags marched to slogans demanding recognition and justice.
At the arches where the Amphitheater is located, members historically painted the colors of the trans flag on the pedestrian crossing there. This is part of the agreement approved by the Puerto Vallarta City Council and promoted by Councilman Luis Escoto, representative of the LGBT+ affirmative action movement. The crossing now recognizing the transgender community becomes a permanent symbol of inclusion in the tourist heart of Vallarta.
Speaking at the Puerto Vallarta celebrates International Transgender Day event Councilman Escoto addressed the attendees reaffirming his commitment to a local rights agenda and celebrating the resilience of the trans community.
Sebastián León, trans coordinator of MOVii and promoter of the Binder Project; Karla Macedo of Vallarta Trans; Dennisse Covarrubias of MOVii; members of the Diverso UDG collective and the Binder Project support program also attended the Puerto Vallarta Celebrates International Transgender Day event.
Puerto Vallarta celebrates International Transgender Day and was painted blue, pink, and white as a reminder that the trans struggle is not a passing fad but a constant call for justice, respect, and recognition.
