Ruffy’s Dog Club & Cantina Raises Over $230,000 Pesos For Puerto Vallarta SPCA

Puerto Vallarta’s premiere country club for dogs (with full service bar & restaurant for “hoomans”), Ruffy’s, hosted and sponsored a sold-out, packed (dog) house event on Friday, 19 November, 2022. Over 160 people came out to Ruffy’s Dog Club & Cantina, just along the River Cuale, in support of a sold-out event for the SPCA of Puerto Vallarta, including local celebrities Luis Whitaker, who hosted the event, and a surprise performance by singer, Kim Kuzma. Named “Ruffy’s to the Rescue,” the fundraiser was a collaboration between Ruffy’s and the SPCA, and was sponsored by animal lovers Ryan Donner & Associates, Harmonious Living & Performance Ad Group.

Visitors to the fundraiser paid $1000 pesos or more per ticket, and also participated in a silent auction and raffle with total value of donated prizes well over $100,000 mxn. Ruffy’s owners Susan McKenna & Renee Sproles-Fovel, along with Executive SPCA Executive Director Luz Maria Wong and board member Christopher Rising and a dozen or so SPCA volunteers, worked tirelessly during the evening to ensure the ticket holders were well-fed, served free beverages and enjoying the evening together. Catered by Ruffy’s, the menu was chockrd full of hamburger & cheeseburger sliders, crisp/crunchy and delectable pizza slices, veggie & fruit plates, Ruffy’s signature “pugmiento cheese” and one of Chef Susan’s crowd favorites, a Mango Chicken Tartlet – a small savory pie crust filled with fresh sauteed mangos and chicken bites. The meal service ended with home made, warm & soft chewy cookies and a dark chocolate brownie served with dripping vanilla ice cream.

“We were very pleased with the support from the Vallarta community and our sponsors to make this fundraiser a success. We still have a long way to go in order to re-build the shelter, but these funds will help us a great deal. Our gratitude to Ruffy’s and all of our sponsors and volunteers and community members for making this happen,” said Christopher Rising, SPCA volunteer and board member who lead the planning and coordination for the event.

“Ruffy’s is not just a country club for dogs (where humans are welcome),” McKenna said with a smirk and a wink. “Ruffy’s is really about community and sharing that love,” she continued. “We currently partner with three charities that help our pet community, including the SPCA, hosting adoption clinics, pop-up vet clinics, fundraisers and more. We are proud to have helped raise so much money for Luz and her team, and the animals her shelter rescues from the streets of Vallarta. Our hearts are filled with gratitude to so many of our Vallarta fur-iends and family who made this night such a smashing success.”
