Puerto Vallarta Drops Outdoor Mask Mandate

After more than two years of its use, Governor Enrique Alfaro announced that the use of mandatory face masks in the state of Jalisco (which includes Puerto Vallarta)is withdrawn. He indicated that Jalisco has acted on time and announced that this agreement will be official on the afternoon of this Monday, May 9.

Enrique Alfaro Ramírez specified that the use of face masks in closed spaces will no longer be mandatory, but he pointed out that in public transport and in medical units the restrictive measure is maintained.

He reported that the numbers register 59 cases per day on average, against 819 cases per day in the last two years; Likewise, there are currently 21 people hospitalized and in April there were 19 deaths, which represents the lowest level per month since 2020.

“These indicators make us think that we can take a step forward, carefully, with the awareness that this is not over, also bearing in mind that in other parts of the world there are outbreaks that should be cause for alert. For this reason, we want to communicate today to all the people of Jalisco that we have made the decision to eliminate the mandatory use of face masks in our State, ”said the president.

The Governor called for decision-making capacity if necessary since worldwide outbreaks of Covid-19 have occurred in different regions of other continents.

Likewise, the call is made to the population that has some type of respiratory disease to wear the mask as an individual responsibility.
