What is still closed in Puerto Vallarta as of July 6, 2020 due to COVID-19. Why is there caution tape still on the Puerto Vallarta malecon? Is the malecon open? Can I attend a gay party in Puerto Vallarta? Private Parties and Public Spaces are still closed in Puerto Vallarta as of July 6, 2020. Puerto Vallarta municipal authorities emphasize that parties and large gatherings are still prohibited, not only in public event rooms but they are also banned in private spaces such as private gardens and pools. In addition, public squares, sports unit complexes and the entire Malecon are also not yet open. However, with the relaxation of the last few weeks, the delineation with yellow caution tape became necessary to deny access to two of the main public squares, such as the Pitillal and the Lázaro Cárdenas public squares.

Regarding the Puerto Vallarta Malecon it is allowed to go to the restaurants and businesses in that area, so it is open to 60 percent, but this is one of the public spaces that full opening is not yet authorized, so hence you see the area is delineated with the yellow caution tape.

Aruro Dávalos Peña Puerto Vallarta mayor reiterated the official  ban on parties and crowds is still in effect. They are strictly prohibited including parties on terraces, gardens and pools. On July 6, 2020 the head of Inspection and Regulations, Juan José Velázquez Hernandez, specified that there were five parties shut down during the past weekend including a private gay party at Terra Noble was shut down. Velázquez Hernández stated it was necessary to delimit the public squares of Pitillal and Lázaro Cárdenas with caution tape, because they are public spaces by state and federal provisions not authorized to be reopened. He also gave a strict reminder that bars, canteens and clubs in Puerto Vallarta are still to remain closed. Currently there is no dry law in Puerto Vallarta and restaurant-bars may be open. The purchase of alcohol requires the consumption of food and each customer is allowed a maximum of three drinks.
