Javier Jiménez Honored for Leadership in LGBTQ Tourism

Javier Jiménez honored for Leadership in LGBTQ Tourism. Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ community continues to shine on the international stage with Javier Jiménez, President of Vallarta Pride and CEO of Grupo Garbo—one of those most responsible for the success. Javier was recently honored with the prestigious “México, Muy Mexicano” award from CANACO SERVYTUR, recognizing his role in strengthening national tourism, supporting economic development, and elevating inclusive spaces across Mexico.

This recognition marks a milestone for Puerto Vallarta: for the first time, Mexico’s national chamber has formally acknowledged the importance of the pink retail and hospitality sector, validating its cultural and economic contribution to the country. For a destination like Puerto Vallarta—built around gay nightlife, LGBTQ+ tourism, restaurants, bars, and vibrant community spaces—this award reflects a broader shift in national visibility and respect.

A Leader Who Has Helped Shape the Modern LGBTQ+ Experience in Puerto Vallarta

In accepting the award, Javier expressed deep gratitude to CANACO SERVYTUR, his team, and the countless supporters who have contributed to Grupo Garbo’s success. His message highlighted the pride of being a family business rooted in Mexican identity while championing diversity, equality, and the expansion of inclusive hospitality nationwide.

His influence reaches far beyond business. Over the years, Javier has created many of the spaces that define the Puerto Vallarta gay scene including Garbo bar, Wet Dreams, Mr Flamingo, Industry Night Club and influencing Daiquiri Dick’s and Vallarta Pride. His leadership reflects a strong commitment to lifting up the local community while ensuring that Puerto Vallarta remains Mexico’s #1 LGBTQ+ tourism destination.

This work has earned him major distinctions, including being named “Most Influential Person” at the 2024 Best of Gays Awards, recognizing his cultural and economic impact on the region.

Historic Government Support for Vallarta Pride 2025

One of Javier’s most significant achievements came in early 2025, when he helped secure a landmark partnership between the city and the community: for the first time ever, the Gobierno Municipal de Puerto Vallarta officially announced sponsorship for Vallarta Pride 2025.

This historic alliance—made possible with the support of Municipal President Luis Ernesto Munguía—establishes a special government committee dedicated to strengthening the event’s long-term success. The new committee will improve resources, expand international promotion, and create a more stable institutional foundation for future Pride celebrations.

The announcement followed a series of high-level meetings in March 2025, where Javier represented the LGBTQ+ community as President of the Vallarta Pride Organizing Committee. His negotiation skills and community-driven vision were critical in achieving this breakthrough.

This level of municipal support marks a new chapter for LGBTQ+ tourism in Puerto Vallarta, ensuring that Vallarta Pride continues to grow as one of Latin America’s most important LGBTQ+ festivals—and a driving force behind the city’s economy.

Javier’s Recognition Matters for Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ Tourism Future

Javier’s award is more than personal achievement—it reinforces Puerto Vallarta’s image as a destination where LGBTQ+ innovation, cultural leadership, and inclusive business practices thrive.

For travelers around the world deciding where to visit in 2025, milestones like this strengthen Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as:

A global LGBTQ+ hub for nightlife, entertainment, and hospitality
A city with strong institutional and community support for LGBTQ+ rights
An international leader in LGBTQ+ tourism development

As Puerto Vallarta continues attracting hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ+ visitors annually, leaders like Javier ensure that the city remains not only safe, but vibrant and fun, inclusive, forward-thinking, and deeply rooted in Mexican culture.

A Message of Gratitude and Commitment

In his acceptance note, Javier emphasized that this recognition belongs to everyone who has supported the evolution of Puerto Vallarta’s LGBTQ+ scene:

“This distinction represents not only the culmination of years of dedication and effort, but also the pride of being a family business group deeply committed to our roots, to national economic development, and to fostering inclusive spaces throughout Mexico… We will continue to work with commitment, integrity, and passion to further strengthen Mexico’s growth and the well-being of our communities.”Javier Jiménez

With this award, plus the historic new partnership for Vallarta Pride 2025, Javier stands as one of the most influential voices shaping the future of LGBTQ+ tourism in Mexico.
