Is Puerto Vallarta Safety Than The US during COVID-19? Many travelers and part time residents report feeling safer in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico than in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic. This in spite of the fact the the number of cases in Mexico is rapidly rising. There will always be areas for improvement and PV is no exception. Here are some things Puerto Vallarta is doing to make tourists and residents feel safer.

Some visitors to Mexican airports report passengers are asked to fill out a Health Declaration card upon arrival, which can be downloaded to a cell phone prior to arrival. Some people have been told that they would be required to submit this form upon arrival to customs agents, though the actual experience has been inconsistent, depending on airport and day. Puerto Vallarta joins WTTC Safe Travels program. Puerto Vallarta and its state of Jalico has received the WTTC Safe Travels stamp, a day before the state officially opened to tourism June 15, 2020.  Beaches are now open for traveler and guest use, and hotels are permitted to open since June 15, 2020. Restaurants and cafes in Puerto Vallarta that have applied sanitation and safe distancing measures can operate at 50% capacity, many since June 1, 2020.

Some taxi drivers recently were certified with a stamp that designates them as ‘COVID-19 free’, after having undergone a training and evaluation process. The Mexican Council of the Medical Tourism Industry was in charge of organizing a training course and in turn certifying taxis for this process. The decal is visible on their vehicles and identifies them as drivers who have undergone this process called “Safety and Health”. Puerto Vallarta was the first tourist destination that underwent this hygienic certification process, which will be constantly evaluated and inspected to maintain sanitary security in the city. This was reported by the president of the council, Carlos Arceo.

International businesses such as Home Depot and Walmart have required the use of masks for several months and limit the number of shoppers per houseshold. The government issued a statement about mandatory masks in the public on July 16, 2020.

To travel right now is a personal choice, even as much of Puerto Vallarta is open.  There is a way to do it safely, ethically, and in a way that protects those traveling around you and the destination to which you are visiting. What do you think. Do you feel safer in Mexico than in the US during this pandemic?
