Hotel Mercurio Update July 2024

Hotel Mercurio update July 2024 from owner Paul Crist. Just a note, again to thank you for supporting my efforts to support the former Mercurio Staff, and to update you on our progress as we work through this ordeal of the Hotel being unexpectedly seized.
Because the whole operation, from the decision (of which we were not informed) to the eviction (of which we were not informed), was carried out illegally, with no notice by a new judge who had just been assigned the case weeks before, we are pursuing a possible legal remedy.
It is unlikely to get me the property back, and it could take months or even years. So I’m not counting on it but IF we prevail, it will be great, because I need something to live on and maybe someday be able to retire.
Hotel Mercurio update July 2024 , I finally have a buyer (at $700,000 pesos) for my showroom condition 2022 Toyota SUV (it was my first new car since 2004, and I thought I would drive it for many years, but oh well).
With the sale of my car, I’ll have raised and paid to staff $1.2 million of the $1.9 million in severance pay required by law (that leaves about $700,000 pesos or about $41,000 USD to raise).
With this Hotel Mercurio update July 2024 much of what we have raised is thanks to many caring and generous donors (like many of you reading this now), and the very generous venues and artists that have supported me and my former staff: Catrina Cantina, Act2, Nacho Daddy, Let’s Pho, La Noche, Casita & Garden.
I’d also like to thank Dino Alberti of Blondies for buying equipment, liquor license, and taking over the lease on our old store on Lazaro Cardenas. And of course, my 2 fairy Godmothers, Cassandra Shaw and Alison Lo for their support in so many ways. With this Hotel Mercurio update July 2024 I will finally gain access to the storage unit where my furniture, equipment, and inventory from the hotel has been stored since May 17.
Hotel Mercurio update July 2024 but I’ve been fighting the court to get access to the storage unit from the beginning. Hopefully, most of what I still owe the staff will come from sale of furniture and equipment…watch my Facebook for items for sale!! The his will be a HUGE weight off my shoulders to have that done.
And as for me… I am still working through bankruptcy in both Mexico and the US. Mexico is a horrible system… makes me wonder what the point of a limited liability corporations is (which is how my business was set up).
The shareholder (me), still ends up with liabilities that in the US would simply be discharged. But at least there’s few liabilities. we were always up to date on suppliers and taxes.
So all in all, I’m in a MUCH better place than I was in those first couple of weeks. Not everyday. There are still setbacks, days when I am filled with doubt and fear for my future. But most days, I know I am not done yet!
I’ve always gotten through my own dark times by helping others (seriously, helping others is the BEST therapy if you’re depressed or going through sh^t… I recommend it!)
And in fact, I am currently helping a good friend, James Wolburg, a PV native who grew up in the Versalles Colonia, who overcame obstacles to graduate from the world-renowned Joffrey Ballet School in New York. He went on to dance professionally in Europe, the US and elsewhere.
He returned home to Vallarta in October 2023, and produced an incredible all-male production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake at Act2. And He’s working on some wonderful productions for the upcoming high season! But his dream is to establish an academy of dance in Vallarta…
I have agreed to help him organize, fundraise, and develop a solid business plan. Stay tuned for more news on this amazing project! It’s me, helping James to help kids from all socioeconomic backgrounds through dance.
Again, I thank you for your support, your caring. It is not an exaggeration to say that you all have, and are, playing a part in saving my life at a very dark moment. I will never forget that, or the lessons I am learning as I deal with all this.
P.S. I am still soliciting contributions for my staff via Casa Jojo (we do still have $43,000 USD to pay every staff member their due!):
