Mia Martina at Mantamar Beach Club

Mia Martina

Mia Martina is an international multi-platinum recording artist that first came to recognition with her global hit, Stereo Love.  Since then, she has made the charts with numerous other singles, such as Latin Moon, and Sooner or Later. Mia will be in Puerto Vallarta performing at Mantamar Beach Club February 13-17, 2020. We are excited to get to know Mia and her career.

We know you are excited to be performing at Mantamar Beach Club in Puerto Vallarta! What can we expect about that show in particular?
You can expect a beautiful sunset show with some of my biggest hits. Music brings people together and I’m excited to get everybody moving and feeling good.

How did you come to know Mantamar as a place to perform?
My fans actually, to be more precise, my LGBT fans. They tag me in a lot of photos and are always suggesting places to visit them and perform. It’s also such a beautiful place and I am so happy that I get the opportunity to share my music with my fans anywhere in the world!

Have you ever visited or performed in Mexico or Puerto Vallarta before?
I have! Only for fun though, this will be my first time performing in PV. I definitely don’t get to visit as much as I want to.

What would you like to say to your LGBT fans in Puerto Vallarta?
I am so happy to be on the stage again performing for my LGBT fans. I think they are the most loyal fans ever! I want to also say thank you to my LGBT fans for being your authentic selves and always supporting my music and showing me so much love.

Where are you from and what was your first introduction to music?
I was first introduced to music by my parents. Since I was a kid, they have always supported me in my music and are a huge part of the reason why I’m doing what I love.

Can we please give a shout out to those parents out there who are supporting their children’s dreams! Tell us a little about the beginning of your professional music career.
I am from a small village in New Brunswick, Canada where there is no music scene. I started off by moving and doing an internship at a label in Ottawa. I remember seeing so many artists everyday at the label and thought to myself, ‘ I should be doing that too.’ I approached the CEO of the label and pitched myself to him, and that started the launch of my career.

How did the international success of Stereo Love change your life?
I still can’t believe the success that Stereo Love has had. I remember the day when the song came on the radio for the first time and my parents called me to tell me I was on it! What I love most about it now, are the stories that I hear from fans about how the song supported them and made them feel happy during difficult times. I myself, have had such great memories of Stereo Love and am so grateful for the positive response it received and continues to receive.

Why did you decide to take a break for two years?
I took a two-year break prior to the release of my latest EP, Daydream to regroup and reassess my personal and creative life. Since I’ve been in the business for so long without much of a break; I took sometime to enjoy my success and to also work on what is next. Along with my music, I worked on expanding my brand and I can’t wait for you guys to see all the things coming in 2020. I also finally caught up on some much needed sleep!

What was the inspiration of your return single Different Kind of Love? Who wrote and who produced the song? See the video on YouTube here
I remember sitting down in the creative process with Vinny Venditto and YNiQ who also co produced and co-wrote Different Kind of Love and just thinking about what direction in music I wanted to go into. I wanted my fans to see my growth musically and also take a more vulnerable direction in my music. I felt that Different Kind of Love was the perfect summer song comeback to do just that.

What inspired you to film the music video of that song in Santorini?
Filming a music video in Santorini has been on my bucket-list forever! Being that I took some time away; I really wanted something that would give the song the picture I was looking for. For Different Kind of Love, I felt that the summer-vibe of the song matched with the beautiful scenery of Santorini. The video was a dream-come-true for me, and I’m so happy that we got the opportunity to film the video there.

What are your future plans for your music career?
I’m really looking forward to performing all over the world this year. I’m excited to be able to connect with the fans on a deeper level and to perform in many different places. My full album will also be out later this year, so there are a lot of exciting plans to look forward to!

Tell us more about your new EP Daydream.
My EP Daydream is a taste of what’s to come on my upcoming full album. Most of my fans haven’t had the chance to really enjoy a full body of work from me in years so this was truly for them. It’s really a collection of songs that I hope make people feel happy and uplift them in some way. I also experimented musically on this EP. From Pop to a bit of trap with help from UK rapper Megz to EDM; there is something for every music lover on this EP. In anything I create, I want to make an impact and inspire people to follow their dreams, live, love, and dance!

Would you share with us something about you that nobody knows yet?
I think people would be surprised to know that I have a Masters in Psychology.

Thanks very much Mia for your time! Is there something else that you would like to say to readers and followers of GayPV? I love you guys so much and thank you for showing me so much love always!
